GOOD WEBSITES FOR BASIC LITERACY AND/OR ESOL
For lists of words that both your basic literacy and ESOL students should know, go to www.duboisic.org and click on Education Watch. When you get to that page, look under Some Topics of Interest and Concern and you will find "The First One Hundred Most Frequently Used English Words" as well as other lists. These lists go up to 1,000 words and you can print them off for your student to learn to read and spell.
Also on this page is a list of 120 of "The Most Frequently Misspelled English Words" that may be important for your student, depending on what level he is and what his goals are.
Another useful website is www.oaklandlibrary.org/services/secondstart. There are a number of useful articles under the Tutors section on the left side of the page, including Tutoring Tips and Word Lists.
